SK Hynix Advances AI Memory Technology with HBM4E Samples

SK Hynix, a South Korean semiconductor manufacturer, recently announced the shipment of samples for its newest high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips to significant clients. This initiative aims to reinforce its market standing within the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor sector.

The company stated that these next-generation 12-layer HBM4E chips achieve data transfer rates of up to 16 gigabits per second per pin. Furthermore, they provide an improvement in power efficiency exceeding 20% compared to earlier versions.

HBM chips are integral to AI chipsets, serving as vital components for processors, including those developed by Nvidia. They facilitate the management of the extensive data volumes required for training AI models.

SK Hynix currently functions as the primary supplier of HBM to Nvidia, operating in a competitive landscape that includes other major players like Samsung and Micron.
